When memory fades,
And I think I forget you
Something happens...
A tune, a phrase,
And I am in that place
Where you once stood.
When memory comes alive
And your spirit is before me
I can't help but wish you
Were there laughing beside me
Telling me to pay attention to you.
When memory torments me
And I wish you would go away
That is when I see you there
And you are more alive to me
From memory that when you were here.
When I think memory fades,
The words "save a prayer"
Come pouring out and
I have to pause to keep from
Shedding the tears of loss and pain.
When I wish memory would stop,
You show up in my head
And I feel you "talk to angels"
I really wish you would let this go.
I wish you would leave me be.
When memory fades,
Twenty years have passed
And you are beside me,
Telling me things that
I don't understand, and
I have to ask what it is you want me to know.
When memory fades,
I see the blood and cuts
And I hear the silent cries
You sent out to me
And I think to myself...
Did I fail you?
